Yarn-Covered Doorstops

These doorstops average around 4 pounds each.  Each one is weighed and labeled individually.  Finished measurements are recorded as well.

They serve as handy weights all over the household.

The bricks have varied in size over the years, using what is available at the time, but they are all standard bricks.

The covering is not meant to be a “work of art”, small intricate mesh and stitches - very time consuming, not cost effective [$150-200].   It does not need to be intricate to fulfill the task at hand.

The plastic canvas used is 5 stitches per inch - compared to 7 as reflected in the swatch picture.

I wore out a legal-length file bag a title company gave me years ago.

I made a replacement of heavy denim and added plastic stiffener stitched to the front/back/bottom areas.

It had no liner, so after YEARS OF USE, I added a liner and flat pockets inside, front and back.

I use these new totes for paperwork, books, shopping, sewing projects, etc.

They are constructed of denim or canvas, whatever really durable materials are available at the time.

The stiffener is plastic canvas used in needlepoint projects, a challenge to stitch through, as the machine needle adjusts itself to keep from piercing the plastic web. These are not fake machine “stamped stitches,” but real stitches.

Some totes have two inside flat pockets.

Others have one pocket and a thermos/drink holder strap which is not meant to be snug--just enough to keep a beverage container upright.
