Surely, there are those here in Kansas who think I’m strange or crazy for mowing the yard wearing thongs (shoes, not butt-less bottoms).
This habit came from living near the Gulf Coast.
My husband’s daughter, as a toddler, sat playing in the lawn and suddenly screamed. She was covered with fire ants. They can kill a baby.
It’s as if fire ants get in position, then one sounds an alarm to start biting.
To mow wearing boots or shoes, socks and jeans, one would be in a world of hurt stepping on a fire ant pile.
By the time they know there is a problem, it is a furious fight to get their clothes OFF.
See how resilient they are in a Texas flood.
